Today’s Times of India lead story exclaimed, “Love under siege: Cops harass couples in parks in Ghaziabad”

Operation Majnu is initiated by Ghaziabad police’s drive lead by SO Alka Pandey – to cleanse the city from eve teasing and to stop innocent girls being trapped by boys with evil motives”.

On the other hand adult entertainer Sunny Leone is busy sizzling up the ongoing season five of Bigg Boss.  If stats to believe it say, after Sunny entered Bigg Boss house, she has become the most searched adult celebrity on the web search engines and it has become difficult to keep children away from being curious about her.

Video: Sunny Leone performing pole dance in Bigg Boss House

Alka Pandey while punishing young man says, “Is squatting wrong? I have to send a message to these boys who destroy the beauty of society. Squatting is a common form of punishment in schools. What is wrong if we implement it here?”

Now, what should be the punishment for telecasting adult entertainers ‘Squatting’?  hmmmm….interesting

What do you have to say on this?

Oct, 6 2011 India- Woke up with the fragrance of festivals. Dusshera celebrations, Durga Puja and Happy Dusshera Messages, phone beeping didn’t let me sleep.  Finally picked my phone to reply to the wishes of friends and family and then a beep again, ‘One new mail’- the mail was a feed from Huffington post and the headline said, ‘Steve Jobs dead’. :O

In a state of shock I switched on my T.V and everywhere there was a celebration mode. I could only find a ticker running on Times Now as ‘Steve Job dies’ and the news confirm.

I don’t know why I was feeling so sad on one thing that I wish I could have met him once and in the rush opened my Laptop to read what happen. The techo-sphere was filled with condolences from the netizens.  For the first time Google offered an obituary on its Homepage; Steve Jobs- 1955-2011.

In the middle of all this a line stuck me, Oct 4- for the first time Tim Cook revealed Iphone 4S and on Oct 5, Steve Job dies.  Though it’s just a coincidence but still I couldn’t let it go away.

A man who has given his life for a dream to change the world with Apple,  he couldn’t succeed in changing the world but he did changed our lives with some master pieces like Iphone , Ipad, Ipod and Mac.  For him Apple was everything he would have battled for and that could be observed with him appearing in Conferences, Launches and Apple Events.  He was battling with Cancer from almost a decade from now for apple. His sudden appearance in the launches, leaving people appalled and delivering the best has proved his devotion for Apple.  This Coincidence is Coincidence or the man was content to see Tim taking his way and now he can take rest from his duties after all he chose Tim Cook out of the best in Apple.

Steve Jobs once said:

“..the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. “

Hopefully he died in full satisfaction with what he has done and has achieved.

The world will miss this genius.

I express my heartfelt gratitude and deepest condolence to Steve’s family.

‘After all he only said, ‘Death is the destination we all share’

RIP STEVE JOBS

‘Show good taste. Avoid pandering to lurid curiosity’

Whosoever has studied journalism can associate with this line, first principle of Reporting/Journalism

For those who are new to Journalism or have forgotten these quick recap

Taste, decency and acceptability

Audiences have different reactions to depictions of violence, nudity, coarse language, or to people in any other situation that is unacceptable to or stigmatized by the local culture or laws (such as the consumption of alcohol, homosexuality, illegal drug use, scatological images, etc.). Even with similar audiences, different organizations and even individual reporters have different standards and practices. These decisions often revolve around what facts are necessary for the audience to know.

Disturbing content might be moved from a cover to an inside page, or from daytime to late evening, when children are less likely to be watching.  (refer your reporting and editing books)

Now look at these pictures:

Picture on the front page of Times of India

Picture on the front page of Hindustan Times

Now what do you think; are these pictures in ‘Good Taste’?

You have audience who is following up with the story across the Globe. What message these pictures are portraying?

When I was studying Journalism, I was taught at the time of emergencies stay calm and report facts, do not use short cuts or simple stereotypes to explain, or sensationalize ideas or thoughts relating to a story. This is called Lazy Journalism.

I know how important is TRP and Readership but putting such pictures on the front page of the National News Paper is wrong.

Think about people whose near ones have died in this incident, what kind of image they are left with after looking such pictures. Shame!

Media don’t learn from their past mistakes and for the sake of some pennies reveal secretive information in public via TV, Newspaper, and Radio and alert the culprits.

Please don’t play with the sentiments of the Common People.

Practice Journalism not Lazy Journalism

Battling against the social criticism from Facebook, Google has launched its much awaited portal Google Plus. With lots of new features this product looks promising and has huge potential. Netizens are thrilled with the launch of Google Plus. People are craving for the invites and want to have a first glimpse of this anticipated competitor of Facebook. Luckily I got the invite and has prepared a list of features I liked and didn’t like although I didn’t get the time to take a tour of complete product. So here are some pics for all Google craving netizens:

Stream

Google has managed to come up with a great idea of segregating the streams, now at least you will know what activities are done within your respective networks, on the contrary Facebook just segregates you in Live and News feed that leads to so much information loss.

Like replaced by +1

Like functionality of Facebook has been replaced by Google +1

Commenting:

Commenting has been made easy with Google plus, you can now edit the comment you have posted.

Number of Comments in a post: good presentation that shows people part of the conversation. The only hurdle i can feel is what if the conversation has more than 100 comments?

Share:

Sharing seems to be similar as it is in Facebook the only difference is that on Google plus you can share the status messages too, sharing pictures and videos is fine but sharing status message in your circle can again lead to privacy breach.

Tagging

For tagging your friends in a message you can either use ‘++’ or @ same as Facebook users’ uses

Notifications:

Brilliant!

Beautifully explained and managed.

Photo Gallery

Awesome is the word. Loved the way they are displaying albums. Segregation of images based on Photos from your phone, Photos from your circles, photos of you makes it much cleaner.

Profile:

Neat but integration of Buzz, buzz me off…

If it says no message to display, there should be a link or button that should poke a user to write about yourself or Post.

Visibility

This feature lets you manage your online Google presence. These days netizens are very particular about their online visibility.

View profile as is also managed well, however as one see his/her profile it should give them an option of change your privacy setting or hide your profile from this user etc.

Manage Multiple Profiles:

Google gives you an option to switch off use of a single profile, in fact now you can manage multiple profiles. This feature seems interesting especially for the ones who use Google apps.

Most of the features remain the same as they are on Facebook. In fact if we look at closely they have integrated LinkedIn and Facebook together. Now you can have both your personal and professional network on one platform on Circles.

Here are some apprehensions the few people have:

- When you join Google+ , you get two options

a. Merge your picasa album

b. Don’t use Google +

There should be an option to skip this option

- Why would I switch to Google + when all of my friends are already on Facebook?

- Google will become the biggest depositor of your data. It is already facing attacks from hackers in China. I don’t want to give away my info.

Integration of chat within the circles is a big move but I miss smileys in my chat :(

Well some questions cannot be answered, for everything else, there is Twitter  ;)

But i end this by saying, ‘Irony of social network:  people are discussing Google on Facebook and then they call the competition begins….

Today’s newspaper headline says that there are only 25 seats left in SRCC. Imagine the level of competition these students will have to face from each other. And then after 3 years, when they graduate, they will all give CAT, and with IITians they will crack IIMs and other big colleges. Where are the other students headed too?  I don’t think an average student should even think of appearing in CAT, as the competition is such that no matter how good you write or perform you wouldn’t be selected. This had happened to a friend of mine a year back, he scored 99.6% in CAT but none of the IIMs called; not even IIM Shillong. Guess what the reason would have been?

He scored 70% in Grads and IIMs eligibility is 75% and above. Great, Why on earth does the CAT prospectus says that the cut-off is 50% and students getting more than 50% are eligible for CAT—just to earn some shilling from average students? This is not done and then we put so many obligations for a man (Anna Hazaare) who is fighting for Corruption.

We talk about education system being faulty but has anyone stood up to do something? Yesterday Chetan Bhagat tweeted, “If I offer to help fix the education system, will b labeled a) publicity seeker, b) politically motivated, c) rss agent. Hence, sit. Watch.” Imagine a man of such repute is saying so.

Newspapers are talking about ‘Reverse Brain Drain’: People want to come back to India and join back. Do you think this is because they love their country and is missing it? The answer my dear friend is a big NO. If they would have, they wouldn’t have left when the country needed them the most. You don’t leave your mother when she is in trouble or not productive; then why country?

The reason is simple: Because India has become rich and can afford many scams. They know that they can make their wealth 10 times more than they have (no offence to anyone). And if they are not thinking this way, then I salute them and just want to tell them that ‘boss when you join a big company here, do hire students from 2-tier or 3-tier colleges too, and let them grow.’

Govt. is against Private colleges and AICTE doesn’t approve them. Without even thinking for a moment about the students, they cancel the affiliations. Again it’s not the college that suffers but students. Private colleges that are affiliated come with so much fees that: Govt college me admission milta nahin and Private college ko paisa dete dete loan itna ho jata hai ki bas zindagi sach me udhar ki lagti hai’

Why is our education system so hypocrite? Why do they keep 33% as pass percent when they know that there won’t be any college that will entertain these students, no matter which course they want to do? Why can’t they make pass percentage as 70%; go for grading system?

Let’s start a protest against this system; let’s do it for me and you as we all have ‘Anna’ inside us.

Join me with this protest on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Improve-the-Education-system-or-Guarantee-us-our-future/219285641425724

As a human we always suffer from Triple S effect: Safety, Security and Satisfaction. I am no different.

When I was a child I used to see things from my angle (height 3.5ft), and everything at that time seemed so big and huge.  When I used to walk onto the streets holding my mother’s hand, those fingers also appeared big; but I was secure, satisfied and safe. But just when I thought it was safe…I landed up in school and suffered from the Triple S effect.

Few years later the angle changed with time and height ;) . Now things didn’t appear that big. The only thing which appeared Massive was Maths ….uff! How will I pass? –“bhagwan, is baar pass kara do , I will fast for 10 navratras’ ,  is vishwas pe saare exams de aate the ki Bhagwaan baccha lega.   Result day – was used to be a day when I used to read all holy books. J  Exam cleared; promoted to next class and mission accomplished …phew!   Every day we used to curse the person who has made subjects like Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Every morning we used to pray for some strike, some band, some war; aaj yar chakkar jam ho jaye, maine Science ka project nahi bany; so that we can skip school (we the inhuman kids) and Thank God, He doesn’t answer all your prayers!

And then when I realized it was safe……

Time changed and perspective changed; Now every sentence you say should have logic  in. It should make sense because senseless people are not required anywhere. I was becoming mature.  Some force called observation, which I read many times but never understood, hit me badly.  Maturity was on its way and struggle started haunting (read: Struggle as Competition).   What to do next?  College Vs Courses were the new terms of town. Not knowing what the difference is, I went for Mass Communications and graduated in advertising….phew! And then when I thought it was safe…..

I landed up in a Job: Events, Journalism, Cinema, Content and then Product Technology.  Career Booming, great learning and big bunch of friends.

And then I thought it was safe…  The next big thing was waiting for me: ‘Since you are grown up now, learn to be responsible and understand the value of safety, security and satisfaction’, someone whispered in my ears. …

A day in Delhi Metro

Posted: May 27, 2011 in Socially wicked

Delhi Metro turned into a boon for daily commuters who travel from various locations for work and study.  I started commuting through metro since last month. It was tiring and I was ridiculed in 2 days as I have hardly used public transport, therefore was not used to it.   Every day I used to crib for an hour; before boarding and after reaching home. I simply hated commuting but was not left with any choice as I switched my job recently…

Day in and day out, the experience in Delhi metro started making me laugh, think, smile over diverse nature of events.  Now, I have stopped cribbing and started enjoying.  Every day I have a tale to share at home. Some day  it’s how women fighting over a seat and not letting other person to enter , Someday how a generous lady leaves her  seat for a pregnant lady, someday you have students chatting at the top of their voices and someday they are completely engrossed in reciting their lessons.

Girlfriend shouting on her boyfriend and then feeling embarrassed after seeing that 10 people are looking at her. Wives tired with their husbands and reading books like ‘How to kill your husband’.  Weekends full of crowd and then you get to see variety of people, some will offer you to enter will adjust accordingly; some will debate till they don’t convince you to take the next train. Well this is actually sales all about…

I have learnt how to be generous and leave your seat for needy, I have learnt to thank god each day, I have learnt to value each person you meet and experience you share… In the bad days when I can’t take out my anger on anyone, I have learnt how to control it. I miss my mom when I see a daughter arguing with her mom in a metro. I miss my friends when I see people making space for their friends. I miss my college days and daily assignments, I feel blessed that I never have to struggle so much for my education, for my living.

Metro experience has started making me respect everything that god has given and I should be proud off… Respect, Value, Self-Control, Equality is what I am learning in my 2hrs (time spent in metro) class each day.  It is actually a boon!!

Facebook receives tons of requests in a day; about scams, spam, impersonation, account suspended and why not after all it has more than 500 million users.

But are they dealing with it rightly. Well, Technology wise they are bit advanced and try their best to deliver the best but in case of account suspended/locked their verification method sucks.Their Verification method is:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

‘Facebook utilizes the user’s own social network to create a verification system that is hard to fool. Users are shown a profile picture of a friend, and given six names of who the photo could be. Out of seven photos they can only skip two and must not answer any incorrectly. While gender can be used to disqualify some incorrect answers, unless the hacker is within one’s social circle, it is unlikely they would be able to pass the test.’

Sounds Innovative but actually too good to be true.

Yesterday someone tries to hack my account and to save my info I locked it. Now since morning I have been trying to unlock it but am not able to do so. Why?

Because In the verification process all the pictures/photos I get to identify are the photos in which I am tagged in, the most frightening part is that there are parts of photos where people are tagged which is very hard to identify. I have tried all possible ways, by asking a friend to log in and show me the pics I am tagged in but unfortunately did not succeed.

Why their system has yet not identified this and now what should I do to recover my account.

For the reason I locked my account was that some one has hacked my password and written a weird status message by after locking my account the status message still appears on everyone wall.

Please resolve my following queries:

  1. How to unlock my account
  2. How to hide My status update from my friends’ wall, in case it is locked

What to do now? Is Facebook Listening??

Are we trying enough?

Posted: March 7, 2011 in Socially wicked

When I was a kid in school, I learned a Chinese proverb; Failure is mother of success. Though I understood the message then but had learnt it through the hard way. There is no shortcut to success; in fact success comes only after you fail. Between success and failure there is one driving force ‘passion’. If you are passionate enough to try and try till you achieve your goals, you will never succeed. However, that trying will let you face many failures!

These days things have changed drastically; people don’t want to come out of their comfort zone therefore they don’t even bother to give things a second chance…Phew!!

Everyone has become a rat in the rat race and to kill competition they ‘COPY’. Innovation is restricted to few leaders and rest all copy them, that’s why we have so many gadgets in same range, so many soaps, so many products and so many ‘graduates’!!

But only a bunch of them are trying..:(

Now the question arises why aren’t we trying, are we scared??

Answer to this is we all have one thing in common ‘Fear of Failure’. We don’t try because we are afraid of losing. And in case we try and lose, we don’t give ourselves a second chance. To make it more clear, let me tell u a story. Story about a baby elephant:

One day an African settler took a baby elephant and tied him with a rope to a tree. Every day the settler would come to feed the elephant and bring it water. For weeks and weeks the elephant struggled day and night to free himself. But then one afternoon his behavior changed. No longer did he attempt to escape from his bondage. He stayed within the latitude that the rope provided him without a fight. As the years went by, the elephant became strong and large. He could have easily ripped the tree he was tied to out of the ground and freely roamed the wilderness. But he didn’t. And so the elephant lived out his days a slave to the perception that the universe started and finished with the rope and the tree, and that he had explored and learned everything he possibly could about the world.

We live our everyday lives like the elephant. We each set boundaries for ourselves that limit what we think is possible, and what we will try.

Now after reading this; ask yourself are you trying hard?
